Public doctrine

The slowest of the Eight, and the most patient. Mountain holds most of the historic real estate of the city. Old money lives under its sign; new money pretends to. The Peak Tram terminus is where Mountain House's quiet attention is felt most clearly, and Mid-Levels apartments under Mountain primacy outlast their owners.

Private disposition

Mountain measures time in generations. A contract with Mountain is not entered lightly because Mountain does not exit lightly. People who inherit Mountain contracts inherit them with the building.

Mountain is the House that does not move. Its priests speak the slowest. Its drones, the dragon-drones, are the largest. Its festivals are the quietest of the Eight — small gatherings at temple foundations, at the Peak, at construction sites that have been sites of construction since before any of the principals’ grandfathers were born.

Bo’s father is Mountain-contracted, lifelong, devout. His mother is not. The seam between them runs through their son.
